2018 Presidential Global Fellow

Congratulations to Tavish Fenbert, E’18, mechanical engineering major, theater minor, for being selected as a Presidential Global Fellow. Designation as a Presidential Global Fellow is given on the basis of students’ academic standing, leadership qualities, and understanding of the importance of the global experience to their education, personal development, and career goals. Presidential Global Fellows are chosen by a selection committee from a group of up to 200 Presidential Global Scholars, and the selection must be approved by the president.

Tavish’s most meaningful global experience was a co-op at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in Mumbai. His role was to work closely with students, manufacturers, rural residents, and small business owners to design food processing technologies for rural areas. He developed deep friendships, learned in-depth about Indian culture, and saw firsthand the differences between urban and rural communities. Tavish now plans to serve as a Peace Corps volunteer. “Cross-cultural knowledge,” he says, “pushes me to think about everyday American occurrences in a new light, provoking discussions…about America’s place in the world and an individual’s place in society.”
