Biomedical Engineering is the application of engineering analytical and design methodology to medical problems or biological systems. Within the general field of Biomedical Engineering, biomechanics is defined as the study of how forces produce motion, deformation and/or responses in biological systems. Although this minor is designed for majors in mechanical engineering, it is open to all students with the appropriate prerequisites who would like a background in the application of and response to forces by biological systems and the opportunity to complete an interdisciplinary biomedical engineering (capstone) design project. Course work in general biology, anatomy, physiology and other health science topics is combined with appropriate technical engineering courses which will allow students to appreciate mechanical forces in biological systems.

- Students must file a petition with the MIE Academic Advisor prior to taking any coursework.
- Minor is awarded to students completing the requirements and earning 2.000 GPA in the minor coursework.
